The story of Toni
Inventor · Developer · Innovator
Toni did not discover camping in brochures, but in childhood. Every summer, the family packed the caravan and set off. What was a holiday for others became his school of close observation: How do you live in a few square metres? What works on the road—and what becomes annoying every single day? Toni did not research campers’ needs. He grew up with them.
He learned just as early what it means to take responsibility. Toni has been self-employed throughout his working life—first in his father’s company, later building his own. Being employed, waiting for instructions or passing problems to someone else was never his way. When something did not work, he repaired it himself. When the right product did not exist, he built it himself.
Then came the stroke. A moment that calls many things into question—and clarifies what truly matters. Toni and his wife Katja drew a conclusion typical of him: not retreat, but a new beginning. They bought a motorhome. Since then, the two have travelled again and again, and Toni suddenly found himself back in the world of his childhood—this time with the eye of an entrepreneur and inventor.
Anyone who travels by motorhome knows the problem few people like to discuss: the cassette toilet. Plastic that absorbs odours, surfaces that never feel completely clean, and cleaning chemicals that merely mask the problem. Millions of campers had accepted it. Toni had not.
His idea was as simple as it was unheard of: porcelain. The material trusted at home for generations—hygienically smooth, odour-neutral and durable—as a precisely manufactured insert for the camping toilet. Initial reactions ranged from sceptical to dismissive. Porcelain in a moving vehicle was considered absurd: too heavy, too fragile, nobody would buy it.
Toni persisted. Two years of development, countless trials—and a great deal of broken porcelain—went into reaching series production. He found a German porcelain manufacturer with more than 100 years of experience, continued refining fit and production, and launched the Twusch through his own online shop, without a corporation behind him.
Campers proved him right: hundreds of enthusiastic reviews, recommendations from specialist publications—including PROMOBIL and Reisemobil International—and eventually the interest of an international industry group that acquired the brand. The “absurd idea” had become a product that changed an entire niche.
The Twusch demonstrates three things about Toni: he recognises real problems because he is a camper himself. He is not deterred by initial resistance. And he takes ideas all the way to series production and the customer—not merely to a prototype.
Anyone who knows Toni can already guess: he is working on another project—the ToniCube. Absolutely innovative, with the potential to fundamentally change mobile and stationary heating. No more will be revealed here yet. Stay curious—and if it has already sparked your interest, Toni will gladly answer questions personally.
